You see, deep down, there's something inside all of us: a light.
That thing we have a penchant for. A talent. A gift.
We might not realise it. Or maybe we do, but we don't think it's something worth improving. Something worth following.
And then we ignore it, causing the light to go dimmer and dimmer until eventually it's just a flicker or a spark of a dying dream.
And sometimes we tell ourselves that we're going to use this gift once we're older and established. We're going to work on it later in life.
Then ‘later’ comes before we even know it, and we're old and weak, thinking of what could have been. A part of our heart aching for that dream we never got to see; the light we put out because we kept putting it off until we were older.
But don't we get older every day?
Every hour that passes us by, we age. Every minute spent is one step closer to the grave.
So when is that golden age? When is that perfect time? When do we get to say: “I've grown up, now I can follow my dreams.”
Tomorrow? The day after? Years after?
That golden day never comes because every day is a day for growth.
Every minute spent taking care of our minds, bodies and soul is the minute in which we grow.
Be aware of that gift inside of you. The art living within you. Blow on the embers now. Keep that light shining, burning, and ablaze as you tend to it. Now. Not later, not never. Now!
Do that which makes your heart a little warmer, your soul a little brighter, and your smiles a little fuller.
Do that which fills your eyes with tears and your hearts with joy.
Use your gift and your blessing to fulfill your purpose in this world. To worship Allah. To be of service to Allah.
Never let the light dim. Tend to it. Watch it grow and grow with it.
When we let that light live. When we let it fill us, it will radiate outwards. The people around us will feel it. And it might just light up the candles inside of them.
Until theirs burn and erupt in a shower of stars.
Until the whole world is lit with lights from within.
So don't put out your light. The future you will thank you for it. For doing that which adds a spring to your steps, colour to your soul, and life to your eyes.
That thing for which you wake, every day, with your purpose clear.
That which raises your spirit, sharpens your sight, and clears your vision.
That which keeps your light burning brighter.
I end with a quote from The Storyteller’s Secret: “You have to know what sparks the light in you, so that you… can illuminate the world.”
What lights you up? Find it, hone it, spread it ✨
